Is the Red Storm in Libya a Sign of Qayamat?
Throughout history, different events have been seen as signs that tough times are coming. These events remind us that our actions have consequences.
Looking at past communities, we see that their wrong actions led to severe punishments. But followers of Prophet Muhammad have been protected from such extreme punishments. However, smaller trials are sent as warnings to remind us to repent and change our ways.
The Prophet, guided by Allah, warned us about these trials so we can avoid them. Recently, a significant event, called the red storm, occurred. The Prophet had warned us about this storm and other signs, which we should take seriously to avoid worse outcomes.
The hadith, reported in Sahih Muslim and Sahih Bukhari, mentions several signs: people collecting wealth unfairly, happily paying taxes but neglecting Zakat (charity), normalizing alcohol, men wearing silk and gold, disobeying parents, giving wives more importance than mothers, and valuing friends over fathers. The increase in music and singing is also a serious warning.
In the past, some nations were punished severely, like the Jews whose faces were changed as a punishment. If we continue with the wrong actions mentioned, we may face similar consequences. Sadly, these signs are already common among us today.
We often pay taxes but hesitate when it comes to Zakat. Some groups avoid giving Zakat, and men wearing silk and gold, along with music, are becoming more common.
Immorality is also increasing, even in respectable families. Women, including daughters and grandmothers, are making and sharing dance videos online, sometimes compromising their dignity for likes and views. Respect for elders is also declining, with friends and spouses often given more importance than parents.
These behaviors are taking us away from our religious identity and leading us into immorality. Some groups, particularly among Jews and Christians, are contributing to this decline, spreading harmful influences among Muslims.
A recent example of this warning was seen in Libya, where cities like Benghazi and Darna experienced a terrifying red storm in May. The sky turned red, and strong winds forced people to take shelter. This event is similar to the warnings given in the hadith, where the Prophet mentioned a red storm, the earth swallowing people (sinkholes), and people’s faces changing.
These signs are becoming more common, and the risk of facing severe consequences is real. In the West, some people are even changing their faces to look like animals, which could be a sign of the punishment mentioned in the hadith. If we continue down this path, we risk facing similar punishments, just like those faced by the Jews.
It’s important to remember that Islam will survive, even if some Muslims do not follow the right path. If one group fails, Allah will raise another to follow the true path. So, we still have time to turn back to good deeds and avoid actions that could lead to severe consequences.
